Lebanon releases Hezbollah members on $20 bail as Israel escalates attacks

BEIRUT — A Lebanese military court reportedly released Hezbollah members for a nominal bail on Monday after they were arrested for possession of unlicensed weapons, as the Lebanese army faces growing criticism over its enforcement of a government decision to seize weapons outside state control and arrest those responsible.
What happened: Three members of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group who were arrested last week for possession of illegal weapons walked free from prison on Monday.
Saudi-owned al-Hadath TV, citing Lebanese sources, reported that an unspecified number of Hezbollah members were released after paying a bail of $20. According to the report, the head of the court, Brig. Gen. Wassim Fayad, came under pressure from Hezbollah to free them.
On Friday, the military court began the trial of three Hezbollah members who were among nearly 30 arrested in southern Lebanon for allegedly possessing illegal weapons and explosives.
