Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah ordered a cabinet reshuffle on Sunday that saw the appointment of new ministers to key portfolios, including finance and foreign affairs.

The move comes as Kuwait’s leadership seeks to stabilize governance and push forward delayed economic reforms after years of institutional gridlock.

The reshuffle is one of several that the current cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, has witnessed since its formation in May 2024. Seven new ministers were appointed on Sunday, bringing the number of ministers to 21 in addition to the prime minister, the second-largest in Kuwait’s history. Only the 14th government, formed in 1990, was larger with 22.

Sunday’s decree also ordered the separation of the Ministry of Information from the Ministry of Youth, and the Ministry of Finance from the Ministry of Investment. The communications portfolio was also expanded to include information technology.
