ANKARA — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will travel to the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said, as regional tensions rise amid a sharpening Saudi-UAE rivalry and unrest continues to roil neighboring Iran.

Details: The ministry did not provide details on Fidan’s agenda, but he is expected to meet with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan as part of the visit.

The visit comes as Turkey ramps up Gaza diplomacy, following Fidan’s virtual meeting on Monday with US, Qatari and Egyptian officials to coordinate preparations for the second phase of the ceasefire plan.

Ahead of his departure, Fidan also held a phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan on Tuesday. The two discussed preparations for the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan, a Turkish Foreign Ministry source told reporters.
