Saudi Arabia cements ties with Sudan during Burhan visit as UAE rivalry heats up
The Sudanese leader may be looking to increase Saudi support following losses on the battlefield as Riyadh weighs its security interests in the country.
Sudanese leader Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan visited Saudi Arabia on Monday in an effort to shore up ties with Riyadh amid a renewed push to end the devastating civil war.
Burhan met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss the latest developments in Sudan as well as “efforts being made to achieve security and stability,” the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

The meeting was attended by Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, national security advisor Musaed Al-Aiban and Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan, according to the agency.
Burhan’s armed forces have been embroiled in a civil war against the Rapid Support Forces since 2023. The conflict has been widely blamed for creating the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, with more than 12 million displaced and a death toll believed to be above 150,000.
