BEIRUT — Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam reiterated on Thursday that his country is ready to engage in talks with Israel as the Israeli military continues to pound Lebanon in a serious escalation that has raised fears of a renewed war.

What happened: In an interview with Bloomberg published on Thursday, Salam accused Israel of refusing to negotiate with Lebanon on issues including border demarcation, the withdrawal of Israeli troops and continuing airstrikes in the country, saying Lebanon will seek US assistance on negotiations.

Referring to President Joseph Aoun recently stating that he was ready to enter dialogue with Israel, Salam said, “I repeat the same offer.”

The premier referred to the US-brokered 2022 maritime border agreement, saying, “We are ready to go back to negotiations with Israel.”
