BEIRUT — Tensions are high in a southern Lebanese town after Israeli forces killed a municipal employee during an incursion Thursday, the latest Israeli attack since last year’s ceasefire that ended the war between Israel and Hezbollah.

What happened: Around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, Israeli forces, accompanied by several military vehicles and ATVs, crossed more than a kilometer into Lebanese territory and entered the town of Blida in the Marjayoun district, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The forces then surrounded the municipality building in the town and started firing at it with machine guns, killing Ibrahim Salameh, a municipal employee in his 50s who was sleeping inside the building, per state media.

The raid lasted several hours as troops stormed the building, according to local media, before withdrawing from the town around 4 a.m.
