Turkish Tesla sales soar in August, surpassing European, Japanese rivals

Tesla car sales in Turkey soared in August, with the US electric vehicle maker reaching the number-two spot for new car purchases ahead of legacy European and Japanese rivals, according to data released Tuesday.
Elon Musk’s EV company sold 8,730 of its Model Y, its flagship car and its only model available in Turkey, that month. That figure was up 86% compared to July, according to data from Turkey’s Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association.
It marked a record for the company in Turkey, with Tesla overtaking local best sellers, including European player Fiat (5,951) and Volkswagen (5,602), as well as Japanese firms Toyota (5,109) and Hyundai (5,249), the ODMD data showed.
Tesla’s Turkish sales only trailed Renault’s at 9,561 cars.
