Israel’s Shin Bet says it foiled Hamas drone plot targeting Ben-Gvir
In a joint operation with the Israeli military, the Shin Bet arrested a West Bank cell as the far-right minister vowed to impose tougher prison policies.
Israel’s Shin Bet said Wednesday it foiled a Hamas plot to assassinate National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir using explosive-laden drones in the West Bank.
In a joint operation with the Israeli military, the agency arrested a Hamas cell from the Hebron area, which investigators believe was directed by Hamas headquarters in Turkey. “The suspects purchased several drones, on which they intended to install explosives and use them to carry out the attack. The drones were seized during their arrest,” the Shin Bet said. “The Shin Bet’s interrogation of the suspects is ongoing.”
Neither Hamas nor Turkey immediately commented on the statement.
Ben-Gvir thanked the Shin Bet “and all those active in protecting me. I will not step back and will not be deterred. Hamas has tried to eliminate me five times already, and failed each such attempt.” He added that he will continue a strict policy in the prisons with regard to Palestinian security prisoners. “Terrorists must know: Instead of them hurting me, we will hurt them, any place, any time.”
