Iran’s Larijani meets MBS, Saudi defense chiefs in Riyadh: What to know
The trip is Ali Larijani’s third since he returned to head the Supreme National Security Council and follows Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian calling for greater unity in the region.
Iran’s top security official, Ali Larijani, arrived in Riyadh on Tuesday for talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the kingdom’s top defense and intelligence chiefs in a bid to expand economic ties as the former rivals cautiously rebuild relations.
Larijani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was welcomed by Saudi officials in Riyadh. He was accompanied by his political affairs deputy, Ali Bagheri Kani, and Mohammad Alibak, an adviser to the Foreign Ministry on Gulf affairs, according to the official Islamic Republic News Agency.
At al-Yamamah Palace, Larijani met Prince Mohammed, Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, National Security Adviser Musaad bin Mohammed Al Aiban and intelligence chief Khalid bin Ali Al Humaidan.
Prince Khalid said in a post on X that he and Larijani discussed “efforts being made toward …security and stability,” while the official Saudi Press Agency reported that the meetings also covered bilateral relations and regional developments.
