Authorities in Egypt are hunting a 3,000-year-old gold bracelet that vanished from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo this week, as the country continues to struggle with the illegal trade of its antiquities.
What happened: The bracelet, adorned with a lapis lazuli bead, went missing from a restoration laboratory in the museum in Tahrir Square, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said in a statement released Tuesday.
The ministry said the case was reported to law enforcement and that a photo of the missing bracelet has been distributed to antiquities authorities across all Egyptian airports, seaports and land border crossings.
It added that a committee will inventory and review all artifacts kept in the restoration laboratory.
