Turkey’s Fidan to visit Egypt with Libya, Gaza on agenda
The top Turkish diplomat’s Cairo visit comes as Ankara-Cairo engagement deepens amid shifting power balances in North Africa and shared concerns over Gaza.
ANKARA — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will travel to Cairo on Saturday for talks expected to focus on regional crises as Ankara moves to deepen ties with Libya’s Egypt-backed administration in the east.
Fidan is slated to meet with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, a Turkish diplomatic source said Friday, speaking on condition of customary anonymity.
The meetings are expected to cover a broad agenda including bilateral relations and regional developments. Turkish and Egyptian officials will explore concrete steps to expand cooperation following the recent thaw in ties between the two countries, the source said.
Talks are also expected to address regional flashpoints across North and East Africa, particularly in Libya, Sudan and Somalia, where both Ankara and Cairo have been stepping up diplomatic engagement.
