Turkey’s Erdogan to visit China for first time in five years for SCO summit
The SCO summit comes as Ankara walks a tightrope between maintaining close ties with Washington and diversifying its foreign partnerships.
ANKARA — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to travel to China this weekend to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.
Erdogan will visit China’s northern city of Tianjin, which will host the SCO leaders summit from Sunday to Monday, Chinese state media and Turkish outlets reported.
Turkey has been a dialogue partner of the SCO since 2013. The organization, founded in 2001 by China, Russia and several Central Asian countries, aims to deepen security, political and economic cooperation among its members.
