Turkey blocks Instagram account of leading LGBTQ+ group Kaos GL
The ban targeting the group, a leading LGBTQ+ organization, follows earlier bans affecting its website and X account.
ANKARA — Turkey has blocked the Instagram account of leading LGBTQ+ organization Kaos GL, the latest move in a broader crackdown on the community.
The group announced the ban on Tuesday. “Our legal fight against the access ban is ongoing,” a statement from Kaos GL said.
“Account not available in Turkey,” a message on Kaos GL's Instagram page read. “This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”
The access ban stems from an Istanbul court ruling in June, a copy of which was seen by Al-Monitor. The ruling blocked all media content by the organization, including its website and X account, citing the "preservation of public order."
