Sudan’s newly formed government convened in the capital, Khartoum, on Tuesday for the first time since the civil war broke out in April 2023, as authorities consider moving the government’s seat from Port Sudan to the capital.
Prime Minister Kamil Idris, who assumed office in May, headed the meeting that tackled the ministries’ plans for the remainder of this year regarding public services, security, reconstruction and the voluntary return of displaced residents, the state-run news agency SUNA said.
Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, Idris said the government’s current priorities include reconstruction, strengthening the economy, maintaining security and encouraging voluntary return.
He added that the ministers also discussed plans to hold an intra-Sudanese dialogue with all of the country’s components, which he said is “part of the government’s program to promote national unity, develop foreign relations and achieve peace.”
