Egypt to open four new free trade zones by end 2026: What to know
The zones will be in 10th of Ramadan City, New October City, New Borg El Arab City, and New El Alamein City.
Egypt is ramping up efforts to open four new free trade zones by the end of next year as part of a broader push to boost exports to $140 billion by 2030, according to the country’s General Authority for Investment and Free Trade Zones (GAFI).
The country's exports for 2024 amounted to $44.85 billion, according to the United Nations COMTRADE database.
GAFI is working with the New Urban Communities Authority to expedite construction of the new zones, Egypt Today newspaper and other local media reported Sunday, quoting GAFI CEO Hossam Heiba.
The zones will be in 10th of Ramadan City, New October City in the Greater Cairo area and Alexandria's New Borg El Arab City, as well as New El Alamein City on the northwest coast.
