East Jerusalem father, son arrested over Israel attack plot: What to know
Three east Jerusalem residents arrested in are suspected of fabricating dozens of explosive devices and plotting to commit several attacks against Israelis.
A father and son, along with a third man, all residents of the east Jerusalem Palestinian neighborhood of Kafr Aqab, were indicted Monday over suspicion of planning several attacks inside Israel.
Israeli police and the domestic security branch, the Shin Bet, announced Sunday the three were arrested in an undercover operation in June. Israeli public broadcaster Kan identified them as Walid Sha’hin, 43; his son Nadel Sha’hin, 21; and Youssef Abu Taha, 23.
According to the joint announcement on Sunday, the three men are suspected of plotting, among other things, a nightclub shooting in the southern city of Rishon Letziyon, the killing of an Israeli air force pilot in the city of Modi'in and the planting of explosives at West Bank crossing points and in areas in the occupied West Bank where the Israeli military is patrolling, in order to kill soldiers and police officers there.
The announcement further said the foiled plots represented “one of the gravest and most complex incidents to occur recently in the Jerusalem District."
