Turkey, UK near deal as Germany approves Eurofighter sale: What to know
Turkey and the United Kingdom inked a preliminary agreement for the sale of 40 Eurofighter jets after Germany lifted its hold on the deal.
ANKARA — Turkey and the United Kingdom on Wednesday inked an initial agreement on Ankara’s bid to purchase Eurofighter Typhoon jets, following the new German government’s nod to the sale.
A memorandum of understanding was signed by Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler and his British counterpart, John Healey, on the sidelines of IDEF 25, an international arms fair currently underway in Istanbul.
“The document brings us one step closer to a comprehensive agreement on the Eurofighter Typhoon,” Guler said during the signing ceremony. “We welcome this positive step toward our country’s integration into the Eurofighter Typhoon community.”
The signing came after the German government’s final approval for the sale.
