Trump eyes Gaza ceasefire 'next week' as pressure on Netanyahu builds
President Donald Trump said he would be “very firm” with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the need for a ceasefire.
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is sounding upbeat about prospects for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as he looks to capitalize on a recent truce between Israel and Iran.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Trump said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also wants an end to the nearly 21-month-long Gaza war, which could happen as soon as next week.
"We hope [a ceasefire] is going to happen, and we're looking for it to happen sometime next week. We want to get our hostages back,” Trump said.
Last Saturday, he said a deal could be reached this week.
