ANKARA — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump discussed the fragile Iran-Israel ceasefire, the war in Ukraine and efforts to repair strained bilateral ties on Tuesday on the sidelines of a NATO summit in The Hague.
The roughly 30-minute encounter marked the first face-to-face meeting since the US president returned to office in January.
What happened: Trump arrived in The Hague less than 24 hours after his administration brokered a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, ending a 12-day war that rattled both the region and the broader international community.
Erdogan “welcomed the ceasefire, which was achieved through the efforts of US President Trump, and expressed his hope that it would be lasting,” according to a Turkish readout of the meeting.
