Israeli military recovers bodies of two Israeli-American hostages held in Gaza
Kibbutz Nir Oz announced that the bodies of Gadi Haggai and his wife, Judith Weinstein, were recovered overnight from Gaza in a military operation.
Israeli troops recovered the bodies of two hostages, 608 days after they were killed by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, Kibbutz Niz Oz authorities announced in a written statement Thursday morning.
The bodies of Gad Haggai and his wife, Judith Weinstein, were retrieved by Israeli troops in an overnight military operation. The Israeli military did not disclose details of the operation.
According to the Israeli military, the bodies of the couple were taken to Gaza after they were killed in their home at the kibbutz.
Ynet reported that the operation was carried out after the Shin Bet and the army obtained intelligence about the bodies' location, in the Khan Younis area, in southern Gaza. The remains of Haggai, an Israeli-American national, and of Weinstein, an Israeli-American-Canadian national, were held by the Palestinian Mujahideen Brigades, the same group that held the bodies of the Bibas family, one of whom was released Feb. 1. The bodies of the other three, who died in captivity, were returned to Israel Feb. 20.
