Iraq orders investigation after attacks on Taji, Imam Ali bases: What to know
The attacks were carried out with "several small suicide drones" and began hours after Iran targeted a US military base in Qatar.
The Iraqi government has ordered an investigation into Tuesday's mysterious drone attack on various military bases in the country.
What happened: A number of Iraqi bases were subjected to an attack by “several small suicide drones” between 2:15 a.m. and 3:45 a.m. local time Tuesday (7:15 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. ET Monday). The attack “severely damaged radar systems” at the Camp Taji base north of Baghdad and the Imam Ali Air Base in the southern Dhi Qar province, said Sabah Al-Numan, spokesperson for the Iraqi premier, in a statement.
No casualties were reported from the attacks, and there was no immediate claim of responsibility. Iraqi forces successfully thwarted other attacks at four additional and unspecified bases, Numan said.
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani ordered the formation of a “high-level technical and intelligence committee” to investigate the attacks, per the statement.
