In first speech after war, Khamenei strikes defiant tone against US, Israel
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed Iran would not "surrender" to the US and made a number of claims about the damage inflicted on Israel and the US base in Qatar.
In his first address since the ceasefire with Israel and clash with the United States, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused US President Donald Trump of exaggerating the damage to Iranian nuclear sites and claimed Tehran could again target American bases in the region.
Khamenei’s televised address on Thursday was his first public appearance since the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday. Iran struck the US’ Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar the following day in response.
The latest round of escalation began when Israel launched an attack on Iranian nuclear, military and government sites earlier this month. The US brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Iran that went into effect on Tuesday.
