Iran appointed former Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli as the country’s new ambassador to China on Wednesday as Tehran and Beijing continue to strengthen their ties.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei made the announcement during a ceremony commemorating late President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who died in a helicopter crash near the border with Azerbaijan last May.
Rahmani Fazli, a conservative politician seen as close to former parliament speaker Ali Larijani, replaces Mohsen Bakhtiar, who served as Iran’s ambassador to Beijing for two years.
