Saudi crown prince hosts Palestinian VP Sheikh days before Trump visit
The trip comes ahead of President Donald Trump's visit to the kingdom, as the Palestinian Authority eyes a role in postwar Gaza and Arab states push for a technocratic government in the enclave.
Newly appointed Palestine Liberation Organization Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh made an official visit to Saudi Arabia on Thursday, his first since assuming the post, meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman just days before US President Donald Trump visits the kingdom on Tuesday.
What happened: The crown prince and Sheikh met in Jeddah to discuss recent developments in the Palestinian Territories. The two “explored ways to strengthen joint efforts to support the Palestinian cause and the interests of the Palestinian people,” the official Saudi Press Agency reported.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and a number of Palestinian officials attended the meeting, the agency said.
Sheikh said in a post on X that the Palestinian president's diplomatic advisor, Majdi Al Khaldi; head of the Palestinian General Authority for Civil Affairs Ayman Qandil; and Chief of Staff of the Palestinian Vice President Office Ayah Muhaisen attended the meeting.
