Over 100 reported dead in Sudan as RSF seizes strategic southern city
A medical organization said that the Rapid Support Forces' capture of Al-Nuhud has so far meant a death toll of over 100 people.
Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces announced on Friday that it had taken full control of the strategic southern city of Al-Nuhud, the largest city in West Kordofan state. The Sudanese army reportedly withdrew from the city, retreating toward a nearby town.
What happened: In a video released Friday, RSF members confirmed the group's capture of Al-Nuhud and said the Sudanese Armed Forces had withdrawn from the city. SAF soldiers and allied forces previously stationed in the city — primarily from the SAF’s 18th Infantry Brigade — reportedly retreated eastward toward the town of Al-Khawi. Reports out of Sudan later on Friday said that the RSF has begun an attack on Al-Khawi.
RSF members also announced that they had captured the brigade’s headquarters in Al-Nuhud, with unverified videos circulating showing RSF fighters inside the purported army base.

In a statement on Friday, the Sudan Doctors Network said that the RSF “killed more than 100 people, including 21 children and 15 women, and looted medical supplies, markets and the teaching hospital in Nuhud.” According to the network, the attack also included the destruction and vandalism of “several private pharmacies.”
