India wages economic war on Turkey for supporting Pakistan in Kashmir
Turkish business interests are taking a hit as India retaliates against Ankara’s backing of Pakistan on Kashmir.
The fallout from Turkey’s perceived support for Pakistan in its conflict over the divided province of Kashmir is growing, with the Turkey-based airport ground handling giant Celebi Aviation Holding’s shares shedding almost 20% of their value since Thursday.
The drop came after India, citing national security threats, decided on Thursday to revoke the security clearance of Celebi’s Indian subsidiaries, bringing all its activities in the country to an effective halt. India’s minister of state for aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, said in a post on X that the ministry had received “requests from across India to ban Celebi.”
Celebi handled ground services at nine major Indian airports including those in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad. The company launched a legal challenge against India in a Delhi court on Friday, citing the “vague” justification for the suspension.
There are growing calls for Indians to spurn all things Turkish, including tourism. The hashtag #BoycottTurkey is trending in India, according to Indian media.
