29 in Gaza die from starvation says PA; UNICEF warns 9,000 children malnourished
Under international pressure, Israeli has allowed dozens of aid trucks into Gaza as Palestinian officials report starvation-related deaths.
The Palestinian Authority's health minister said Thursday that 29 children and elderly people had died from starvation-related causes in Gaza amid mounting international pressure on Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into the enclave.
"In the last couple of days we lost 29 children," West Bank-based Health Minister Majed Abu Ramadan told reporters, describing them as "starvation-related deaths.” He later clarified that the toll included both children and elderly individuals.
Ramadan did not specify the source of this data. The Palestinian Authority governs parts of the occupied West Bank but not Gaza, which is governed by Hamas.
Last Tuesday, the World Health Organization reported that 57 children had died due to malnutrition, citing Gaza's Hamas-affiliated Health Ministry.
