New explosion hits Iranian factory after deadly port fire: What to know
Iranian officials ruled out sabotage as being behind the recent fire at the Shahid Rajaee port but have not commented on the cause of Tuesday’s blast in Isfahan.
An explosion at a factory in central Iran on Tuesday left at least one dead, according to local reports, following another large explosion at a port in the country.
Mansour Shishehforoush, who heads crisis management in Isfahan province, said the blast occurred at about 10:30 a.m. local time (3:00 a.m. EST) in a warehouse belonging to the Avanar Parsian company in Meymeh, around 105 kilometers (65 miles) north of Isfahan. He added that the situation was quickly brought under control but that one person died and two others were injured, the semi-official Mehr News Agency and Iranian Students' News Agency reported.
Iranian officials did not immediately state the cause of the explosion. A website for a company called Avanar states that it produces explosives and is based in Isfahan.
On Saturday, an explosion rocked Iran’s Shahid Rajaee port, causing a massive fire and leaving at least 70 dead. The acting head of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization, Saeed Rasouli, said on Tuesday that the port had resumed operations.
