Lebanon’s Aoun visits Doha as Qatar, France send military support
President Joseph Aoun’s trip to Qatar comes on the heels of his meeting with Saudi Arabia's envoy in Beirut.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun departed for Qatar on Tuesday after the Lebanese military received aid from both the Gulf state and France.
Aoun and Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji are in Doha for two-day visit. The trip will include a meeting with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani as well as “expanded talks involving both the Qatari and Lebanese sides,” Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported. Interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is also visiting Qatar on Tuesday.
The visit is Aoun’s first to Qatar since taking office. Aoun was elected president in January after serving as the head of the Lebanese military since 2017.
On Monday, Qatar announced a 6,000-ton fuel shipment to the Lebanese Armed Forces, the second delivery in 2025 following one in March, according to the Qatar Fund for Development.
