Egypt's Sisi hosts Burhan, eyes reconstruction in Sudan: What to know

Egypt’s president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, hosted on Monday in Cairo the head of Sudan’s army, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, for talks on the latest developments in Sudan, where the military recently made major gains in the capital and surrounding areas.

Burhan, who also heads Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), the country's de facto government, was accompanied by Sudan’s acting foreign minister, Hussein al-Amin, and the director of the Sudanese intelligence agency, Ahmed Mufaddal, the state-run Sudanese news agency reported.

Sisi and Burhan held a private meeting, later joined by delegations from both countries, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

The discussions focused on ways to boost bilateral cooperation in various fields and to advance joint projects in vital areas, including in electricity, trade, culture, science and health, among others, per the same statement.
