Turkey’s Fidan heads to Washington with F-35, Syria high on agenda
Turkey's foreign minister will push for F-35 deal and strengthened counterterrorism cooperation with the United States, according to a Turkish diplomatic source.
ANKARA — Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will travel to Washington Tuesday for his first visit to the United States since President Donald Trump took office, according to a Turkish Foreign Ministry source.
Bilateral ties, particularly defense cooperation, Syria and counterterrorism cooperation, are expected to top Fidan’s agenda during his meeting with his US counterpart, Marco Rubio, and other officials on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The visit also comes as part of preparations for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s potential visit to the White House.
“The meetings are expected to address strategic steps that could be taken in Turkey-US bilateral relations and the preparations for upcoming visits at the level of heads of state,” the source told reporters.
