At least six people were killed by Israeli shelling in southern Syria’s Koya, per Syrian authorities.
Israeli forces entered southern Syria on Tuesday and clashed with locals in the town of Koya close to the Jordanian border on Tuesday, prompting Amman to issue a condemnation of the Israeli forces.
Syria’s official SANA news agency reported that six Syrians were killed and an unspecified number of others were injured by Israeli shelling after Israeli forces entered the Syrian border town of Koya, located about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the city of Deraa.
What happened: SANA quoted the governor of Deraa province, Anwar al-Zoubi, as saying that residents clashed with Israeli forces attempting to enter the town, leading to Israeli drone strikes and shelling as well as "civilian casualties."
The Israeli military said “armed terrorist elements” opened fire on its forces in southern Syria, prompting them to return fire. The assailants were hit, according to the military.
