Turkey, Jordan, Iraq to hold first anti-ISIS summit this month: Turkish official
Top diplomats as well as Turkish, Jordanian, Syrian and Iraqi defense and intelligence chiefs aim to hold a first security summit this month as part of efforts to set up a regional anti-ISIS coalition, Al-Monitor has learned.
ANKARA — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to travel to Jordan this month for the first meeting of a joint regional plan to set up a coalition among Turkey, Jordan, Iraq and Syria to fight against the Islamic State.
Fidan unveiled plans last week to set up a regional coalition, saying that the four countries had reached a preliminary agreement on the matter and that the first meeting to discuss the plan would be held in Jordan.
The meeting is aimed to take place this month, a Turkish diplomatic source told Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity.
Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler and intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin are expected to join Fidan in the meeting with their Iraqi, Syrian and Jordanian counterparts, according to the source.
