One Turkish soldier, 17 PKK militants killed in northern Iraq clashes

ANKARA — One Turkish soldier was killed Thursday in a clash with militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, the Turkish Defense Ministry said on Friday.
The soldier was killed during a clash with PKK militants in the northern Iraqi Kurdistan Region on Thursday, the ministry said in an official statement.
In separate statements later on Friday, the ministry reported that 17 PKK militants in total had been killed by Turkish forces.
The ministry did not provide details on the circumstances of the militants' death, but it appeared to be retaliation for the killing of Turkish soldiers.
