Would Russia leverage Iran in talks to end Ukraine war?
Israel flags concerns over Russian support for Iran's nuclear program.
“Israel fears that in exchange for Iran's extensive assistance to Russia's war effort in Ukraine, the Russians will provide Iran with the technology to turn the enriched uranium into a nuclear warhead,” Ben Caspit reports this week from Tel Aviv.
By flagging Russia’s role as a potential game changer for Iran’s nuclear program, Israel is also appealing to the incoming Donald Trump administration to factor Russia into its maximum pressure strategy toward Iran.
As we wrote last month, the “bond between Moscow and Tehran needs to be broken, but that means a unified policy where these files intersect.”
The incoming Trump administration, unlike its predecessor, is already ahead of the curve in a unified approach to both countries, organized around the principle of peace through strength — including, as a priority, negotiating an end to the war in Ukraine.
