Turkey’s ruling party hits out at Israel’s support for Kurdish-led SDF
Ankara breaks its silence as Erdogan’s ruling party delivers the first official response to Israel’s support for the Kurdish-led SDF.
ANKARA — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling party hit out at Israel on Monday, breaking Turkey’s silence on the Jewish state’s support for the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, which Ankara sees as a top national security threat.
Omer Celik, spokesman for Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), accused Israel of equating the Kurdish community with what he described as terrorist organizations.
“We see that the greatest appetite and motivation for associating our Kurdish brothers with these terrorist organizations comes from the Zionists,” Celik said in a press briefing after a biweekly party meeting chaired by Erdogan.
“While they pretend to give warm messages to our Kurdish brothers, the only ones they are truly sending warm messages to are the terrorist organizations that work against our Kurdish brothers,” he added.
