Rubio and Fidan hold first call as Turkey's role expands in Syria
The congratulatory call comes as Ankara ramps up threats against the Syrian Democratic Forces.
ANKARA — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday discussed bilateral cooperation and regional coordination during their first call since Rubio was confirmed Monday.
Fidan wished his counterpart success in his new role, the Turkish side said.
The pair “affirmed their commitment to conducting cooperation between Turkey and the United States as two allies based on mutual respect and trust,” a Turkish diplomatic source told reporters.
“They highlighted the importance of acting in coordination on regional issues.”
