France’s Macron in Lebanon as Beirut port blast probe resumes
New developments following the election of Western-backed Joseph Aoun as president perhaps offer hope for generating political momentum and restoring the international community's confidence in Lebanon.
BEIRUT — Newly elected Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Friday hosted his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, for the French president's first visit since 2020.
During a meeting at the Baabda Presidential Palace, in Beirut, the two leaders discussed the latest political and security developments in Lebanon as well as French-Lebanese ties.
Speaking at a joint press conference following talks, Aoun publicly welcomed Macron and praised the historical relationship between France and Lebanon. He also called on the international community to “completely” renew trust in Lebanon.
Macron promised his country's continued support for Lebanon, a former French protectorate.
