Germany arrests suspected Hezbollah member: What we know
Germany has arrested a man suspected of membership in Hezbollah accused of running two affiliated associations in Germany.
German authorities on Tuesday arrested a Lebanese man accused of belonging to Lebanon’s Hezbollah group and working for affiliated groups in Germany.
Federal prosecutors identified the man arrested in Germany’s northwest Hanover region as Fadel R. A release from the office of Germany’s Federal Public Prosecutor General said that the man is “strongly suspected of membership” in Hezbollah.
The release goes on to state that Fadel R. joined Hezbollah in the summer of 2008 “at the latest” and attended training courses for the group. From January 2009 onward, according to the release, the accused allegedly took on “management responsibilities in two associations run by the organization in the Hanover region.”
Germany accuses him of being in contact with the Hezbollah leadership as well as working as a foreign correspondent for a Hezbollah media outlet in 2017.
