Saudi Arabia, Iran, China slam Israel at Riyadh meeting: What we know
The China-Saudi Arabia-Iran Trilateral Joint Committee met for the second time in the Saudi capital, more than a year after the Chinese-brokered deal that resumed relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Saudi Arabia, Iran and China called for Israel to stop its wars in Gaza and Lebanon following a joint meeting on Tuesday, with both the kingdom and the Islamic Republic pledging to maintain friendly relations amid the conflict in the region.
Representatives from the three countries met in Riyadh for the second meeting of the China-Saudi Arabia-Iran Trilateral Joint Committee. Saudi Arabia’s deputy foreign minister, Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, chaired the meeting, while Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Deng Li and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Takht Ravanchi represented their sides, according to a joint statement.
Iran and Saudi Arabia pledged to continue “efforts to consolidate good-neighborly and friendly relations between the two countries,” per the statement. The three countries condemned Israel’s strike on Iran last month and called for Israel to cease its military operations in both the Palestinian territories and Lebanon.
“The three countries call for an immediate end to the Israeli military operations in both Palestine and Lebanon, condemn the Israeli attack and its violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran, and call for ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian and relief aid to Palestine and Lebanon,” read the statement.
