Iranian officials praised on Wednesday the ceasefire between the Israeli military and Hezbollah in Lebanon, while vowing to deter and respond to Israel themselves.

According to a ministry statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran “welcomed” the ceasefire, while “reiterating the Islamic Republic of Iran’s unwavering support for the Lebanese government, people, and resistance.”

Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani called the agreement a “proud victory” for Hezbollah in a post on X.

Parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said at a press conference that “calm has been established in Lebanon, and we hope that this calm would prevail in Gaza as well,” referring to the war between Israel and Hamas in the Palestinian enclave.
