Lebanon evacuates Beirut hospital as Israeli strikes expand
Lebanon on Monday evacuated its Sahel Hospital after the Israeli military alleged that Hezbollah stores cash and gold amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars in a bunker beneath it.
Lebanon’s Sahel Hospital in the Haret Hreik neighborhood of Beirut’s southern suburbs was evacuated Monday after Israel said that underneath the hospital is a Hezbollah bunker storing reserves of cash and gold.
In a video statement on Monday, Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari said that the alleged bunker, which he said belonged to former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, contains “hundreds of millions of dollars in gold and cash.”
“I’m calling on the Lebanese government, Lebanese authorities and international organizations: Don’t allow Hezbollah to use the money for terror and to attack Israel,” Hagari said.
The director of the Sahel Hospital and a member of Lebanon’s parliament, Fadi Alameh, told Reuters on Monday that the hospital is now being evacuated.
