Iran’s FM Araghchi mobilizes against Israel in visits to Jordan, Egypt, Turkey
Iran’s foreign minister has paid visits to several countries in the region in the past weeks, with the latest stop taking him to Jordan, amid Israel’s expected retaliation for Iran's missile attack.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, upon his arrival in Jordan Wednesday as part of a regional tour the Iranian Foreign Ministry says is aimed at mobilizing support for an end of the Israeli “aggression” in the region.
During their meeting, the two diplomats discussed the Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and agreed on the need to stop “the crimes and aggressions of Israel” to maintain peace in the region, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a brief statement.
Safadi stressed, "Jordan will not be a battlefield for anyone, and will not allow any party to violate its sovereignty and airspace and threaten the security of its citizens," according to a statement from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.
Araghchi met later in the day with Jordanian King Abdullah II, who during their meeting stressed "the need to stop the Israeli war on Gaza and Lebanon as a first step towards comprehensive calm" in the region, according to a readout from the king's office.
