Algeria's Sonatrach, European partners sign two green hydrogen agreements
Algeria’s Sonatrach has signed two agreements as the country makes a green hydrogen push both for domestic use and for export to Europe.
Algeria’s state-owned oil and gas company, Sonatrach, signed two memoranda of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday aimed at increasing the production and subsequently the export of green hydrogen.
The first MoU — signed alongside Algeria’s Sonelgaz, Germany’s VNG, Austria’s VERBUND Green Hydrogen and Italy’s Snam and SeaCorridor — involves a multiparty plan to export green hydrogen from Algeria to various European countries.
The project “will enable the parties to jointly examine the opportunity to implement an integrated multi-stakeholder project, across the entire green hydrogen value chain, via the SoutH2 Corridor,” Sonatrach said in a press release.
If the project is given a green light, it would supply European markets with green hydrogen through the SoutH2 Corridor, a planned 3,300-kilometer hydrogen pipeline, which would connect North Africa, Italy, Austria and Germany, beginning in Tunisia's coast and ending in Bavaria, southern Germany.
