Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called for Muslim unity and received a warm welcome in the southern Iraqi city of Basra on Friday as he concluded his first foreign trip since assuming the presidency in late July.

Pezeshkian called for unity against Israel and among Muslims in his speech, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

“By standing together, our economy will grow, our culture will be strengthened and we can transfer science and technology to each other,” he said.

The president added that he is determined to complete the Shalamcheh-Basra railway project between Iraq and Iran. The ongoing project will be the first railway link between the countries.
