Erdogan: Turkey plans 'legal steps' for Israel's killing of US-Turkish activist
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vows legal action against Israel in response to the killing of US-Turkish activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi during a protest in the West Bank.
ANKARA — Turkey will take all legal actions to hold Israel accountable for the killing of a US-Turkish pro-Palestinian activist, including applying to the International Court of Justice, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday.
“We will take all legal steps to ensure that the blood of our daughter Aysenur does not remain unavenged,” Erdogan said, speaking after a cabinet meeting in Ankara, though he did not elaborate on what sort of charges Ankara might pursue.
“We will undoubtedly continue our struggle with the State of Israel at the highest level, including by applying to the International Court of Justice.”
Erdogan's comments come after Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, was killed Friday after she was shot in the head by Israeli forces during a protest against settlements in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Eygi was a volunteer with the local Faz3a initiative, a campaign launched in 2019 by local activists to protect Palestinian farmers from settler attacks while harvesting their crops in the fields.
