Brazil’s Lula signs cooperation deals on Egypt visit, will head to Ethiopia next
The Brazilian president met his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, attended an Arab League meeting and is seeking to expand the strong trade ties between the two countries.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visited Egypt on Thursday, a trip that could strengthen Cairo’s integration into the BRICS alliance and give the South American country more influence over the Gaza war.
The president, known simply as Lula, met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo. The two countries signed an agreement to facilitate meat exports from Brazil to Egypt and another on science and technology cooperation, the official news agency Agencia Brasil reported.
Sisi and Lula additionally discussed ways to improve bilateral relations, cooperation at internal forums and their membership in BRICS, according to Egypt’s State Information Service.
Later on Thursday, Lula attended an Arab League meeting.
