Trump's Gaza plan derails Saudi-Israel ties: analysts

US President Donald Trump's plan to take over Gaza will imperil attempts to forge landmark ties between Saudi Arabia and Israel and fuel anti-American sentiment in the oil-rich kingdom, analysts said.

Trump's proposal to redevelop Gaza and oust the more than two million Palestinians living in the territory prompted a global backlash and enraged the Arab world, making it difficult for the Saudis to consider normalisation.

Israel PM gifts golden pager to Trump symbolising attack on Hezbollah

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave US President Donald Trump a golden pager during their meeting at the White House this week, in a symbolic gesture marking Israel's shocking attack on Hezbollah last year.

The gift symbolises "a turning point in the war" against Hezbollah, when Israel carried out a deadly operation against the Lebanese group using exploding pagers in September 2024, Netanyahu's office said in a statement.

"This strategic operation showcases Israel's strength, technological superiority, and ingenuity against its enemies," it said on Thursday.

Baghdad's first skatepark offers boarders rare respite

Rukaya al-Zubaidi placed a cautious foot on a skateboard and then struggled to find her balance as others glided back and forth at Baghdad's first park dedicated to the sport.

"It's only my second time skating, but I want to keep going, especially now we have the space for it here in Baghdad," the 22-year-old said as loud music mixed with laughter from fellow boarders.

After negotiating with authorities for five years, three organisations from Italy, Iraq and Belgium have now opened Baghdad's first skatepark.

Trump sanctions ICC for 'illegitimate' Israel, US probes

US President Donald Trump slapped sanctions on the International Criminal Court for probes targeting America and its ally Israel, but the ICC on Friday vowed to continue providing "justice and hope" around the world.

Trump signed an executive order Thursday saying the court in The Hague had "abused its power" by issuing an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who held talks with the US president on Tuesday.

Trump says Gaza would be 'turned over' to US by Israel

President Donald Trump said Thursday that Gaza would be "turned over" by Israel to the United States when the conflict is over, and no soldiers would be needed for his subsequent takeover and redevelopment plan.

Trump doubled down on the shock plan he first announced on Tuesday -- and on his plan to resettle two million Palestinians elsewhere from Gaza in the Middle East -- on his Truth Social network.

"The Gaza Strip would be turned over to the United States by Israel at the conclusion of fighting," Trump said in an early morning post.

Swedish police say 'multiple nationalities' died in mass shooting

Swedish police said Thursday the victims of the country's worst mass shooting were of multiple nationalities, as Syria and Bosnia said their citizens were among the dead.

Regional police chief Lars Wiren said officers arriving at the scene, where the gunman had killed 10 people before apparently killing himself, had described a scene resembling "an inferno".

Wiren said officers sent to the adult education centre in Orebro, west of Stockholm, were faced with "dead people, injured people, screams and smoke".

Israel orders army to plan to let Palestinians leave Gaza

Israel's defence minister ordered the army on Thursday to prepare for "voluntary" departures from Gaza, as US President Donald Trump ruled out sending American troops to the territory.

Trump had earlier proposed moving Palestinians out of Gaza, sparking uproar from leaders in the Middle East and beyond.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said he instructed the military to formulate a plan for Palestinians to leave Gaza, which has been ravaged by more than a year of war.

Trump's Gaza 'takeover' marks sharp break from US policy

By proposing to "take over" Gaza, US President Donald Trump has not only stunned the world but also departed from long-standing US policy in supporting a Palestinian state.

The president, known for provocative statements, spoke Tuesday of permanently displacing Palestinians from the war-devastated Gaza Strip, expressing his desire to transform the Palestinian territory into "the Riviera of the Middle East."

UN chief warns against Gaza 'ethnic cleansing' after Trump comments

The UN chief warned Wednesday against ethnic cleansing in Gaza as he rejected US President Donald Trump's bombshell proposal for the United States to take control of the Palestinian territory and displace all its people.

Trump, in a White House news conference on Tuesday alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stunningly proposed "long-term ownership" of Gaza by the United States, triggering an international uproar.

The remarks came after he has repeatedly called in recent days for the war-ravaged territory's residents to move to Jordan or Egypt.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric, asked specifically about the Trump proposal, said 'any forced displacement of people is tantamount to ethnic cleansing.'

Trump's plan to 'take over' Gaza, in his own words

Donald Trump's stunning proposal that the United States could take control of the Gaza Strip has drawn criticism from governments around the world.

But the US president's apparent plan -- announced at the White House alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -- remains thin on details.

It came in the context of mediated negotiations between Israel and Hamas to reach the "second phase" of a ceasefire deal that would bring a more permanent end to the devastating war in Gaza.

This is what Trump said at Tuesday's news conference:
