Qatar, Saudi, Egypt join call for Hamas to disarm, give up Gaza rule

Arab countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt joined calls Tuesday for Hamas to disarm and end its rule of Gaza, in a bid to end the devastating war in the Palestinian territory.

Seventeen countries plus the European Union and Arab League threw their weight behind a seven-page text agreed at a United Nations conference on reviving the two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians.

(Reuters) -Palestinian health authorities say Israel's ground and air campaign against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip has killed more than 60,000 people, with nearly a third of the dead under the age of 18.

After a two-month ceasefire earlier this year, Israel resumed an all-out air and ground campaign against Hamas in March. Palestinian health officials say more than 8,500 have been killed since then.

Greek ship manager 'relieved' to see Houthi video showing missing seafarers alive

ATHENS (Reuters) -The Greece-based manager of a vessel that sank after being attacked by Houthi militants off Yemen earlier this month expressed relief on Tuesday after seeing a video showing 11 missing crew members alive.

The six-minute video was released by the Iran-aligned Houthis, who said on Monday they had rescued the seafarers from the Liberia-flagged Eternity C cargo ship.

In a statement, the Athens-based ship management company said efforts were continuing to ensure the sailors' "safe and swift return home to their families".

Israeli foreign minister reprimands Netherlands over criticism, ban on ministers

JERUSALEM (Reuters) -Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar delivered a formal reprimand to the ambassador of the Netherlands on Tuesday in response to Dutch criticism over the treatment of Palestinians and a travel ban against two members of the Israeli cabinet.

Saar said in a post on X that the Dutch government "chose to convert a long-standing friendship with Israel into open hostility towards it, precisely during its difficult time, probably out of political interests".

IMF lifts 2025 growth forecast on 'fragile' easing in trade tensions

The IMF raised its global growth forecast Tuesday as efforts to circumvent Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs sparked a bigger-than-expected surge in trade, while the US president stepped back from some of his harshest threats.

The International Monetary Fund still sees growth slowing this year, however, even as it lifted its 2025 projection to 3.0 percent -- up from 2.8 percent in April -- in its World Economic Outlook update.

In 2024, global growth came in at 3.3 percent.
