Israel says bodies of six hostages retrieved from Gaza tunnel

The Israeli military said on Tuesday it had retrieved the bodies of six hostages from a tunnel in Gaza's southern area of Khan Yunis after a battle with Palestinian militants.

The hostages were Yagev Buchshtab, Alexander Dancyg, Yoram Metzger, Nadav Popplewell, Chaim Perry, previously announced dead, and Avraham Munder, whose kibbutz of Nir Oz near Gaza announced his death earlier Tuesday.

Their families had been informed following intelligence analysis, the military said in a statement, later adding that the bodies were found on Monday night in a tunnel.

Lebanon says five killed in fresh Israel strikes

Lebanon's health ministry said early Wednesday that Israeli strikes in the country's east killed one person and wounded 20 others, hours after it said four people were killed in the south.

The strikes came more than 24 hours after Israel carried out similar raids deep inside east Lebanon and as tensions mounted in the wake of the Israeli killing of a top Hezbollah commander.

"Israeli enemy strikes on the Bekaa" valley killed one person "and wounded 20 others", the health ministry said in an updated toll.

Blinken presses Hamas to back Gaza truce but sees gaps with Israel

Top US diplomat Antony Blinken appealed Tuesday to Hamas urgently to accept a ceasefire plan to ease suffering in Gaza but also entered a public spat with Israel as he capped a new round of shuttle diplomacy.

The US secretary of state closed his ninth wartime trip to the region in which he warned that the US-backed truce proposal may be the "last chance" to broker an end the conflict.

"Time is of the essence," Blinken said after stops in key Arab mediators Qatar and Egypt as well as Israel.

US says Iran responsible for Trump campaign hack

Iran was behind a recent hack targeting Donald Trump's presidential campaign, US security agencies said Monday, accusing Tehran of seeking to influence the 2024 election.

The statement from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) confirmed the Trump campaign claim from earlier this month that it had been targeted, potentially by Iran.

Ahead of Democratic convention, anger in Chicago's 'Little Palestine'

On the outskirts of Chicago, as enthusiastic Democrats gather for their national convention, some residents of "Little Palestine" have a different message for presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

"They won't be having our votes this year," said Ali Ibrahim, the manager of a Palestinian bakery in Bridgeview, Illinois, a pendant in the shape of historic Palestinian lands hanging around his neck. "And we do not want them in office."

Nestled by Midway International Airport and a soccer stadium, the Chicago suburb is home to the largest Palestinian community in the United States.

Yemen flood toll climbs to 60, thousands affected: UN

Flooding caused by torrential rainfall in war-torn Yemen has led to at least 60 deaths since July, with 13 others still missing and a total of 268,000 people affected, the United Nations said Monday.

Yemen, already grappling with an almost decade-long war, suffers from severe floods on a near-annual basis that are triggered by torrential rainfall, while climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of precipitation.

'Afraid to sleep': Nights bring fresh horrors in war-torn Gaza

As the sun sets over Gaza, displaced Palestinians in plastic tents are plunged into darkness, tormented by the buzzing of Israeli drones, constant artillery fire and fear they may not survive the night.

"Mother, let me sleep in your arms, I don't want to die," said six-year-old Yasmine, clinging to her mother in their small, make-shift shelter.

"My children are afraid to sleep," said Safa Abu Yasin. "I'm afraid for their lives too."

Abu Yasin and her four daughters are in Al-Mawasi, an area Israeli forces have said is a humanitarian zone.

Palestinian militants claim Tel Aviv bombing, threaten more attacks

Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad on Monday claimed responsibility for a bombing in Tel Aviv, calling it a "suicide operation" and threatening more attacks in Israel as the Gaza war drags on.

Israeli police earlier said the late Sunday blast in Israel's commercial hub was a "terror attack" that prompted heightened alert.

The force had reported that one person -- who Israeli media said was the suspected assailant -- was killed, and another wounded.

Israeli strikes on Yemen port 'possible war crime': HRW

An Israeli air raid last month on a key Yemeni rebel-held port was a "possible war crime" that has threatened food and aid supply for millions, Human Rights Watch said on Monday.

The July 20 attack on the western port city of Hodeida, controlled by Yemen's Iran-backed Huthis, came a day after the rebels claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Israel's commercial hub of Tel Aviv.

New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) said the Tel Aviv strike that killed one person could also constitute a war crime by the Huthis.

HRW says the damage to Yemen's key rebel-held port in Hodeida could worsen an already dire humanitarian crisis

Israel police say Sunday blast in Tel Aviv was 'terror attack'

Israeli police said Monday that a "powerful" explosion the night before in Tel Aviv was a "terror attack" that wounded one person and prompted heightened alert.

"This was a terror attack involving the explosion of a powerful explosive," the force said in a statement.

On Sunday authorities reported that the blast in the commercial hub of Tel Aviv had killed one person, who Israeli media said was the suspected assailant.
